Second Annual Star-B-Q August 10, 2013

STARBQ2013 Come join us at the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society’s dark sky observing site – The River Ridge Observatory – August 10th 2013 at 5:30pm for the second annual Star-B-Q and Perseid Meteor Shower Watch. Learn to tour the Summer Milky Way through binoculars, look back in time tens of thousands even millions of years viewing deep-sky objects through amateur telescopes, and help us count meteors as late as you can stay up (NASA even has a meteor counting app for Apple and Android smartphones to help you out: http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2011/13dec_meteorcounter/) .

Bring your own picnic or join us in our Star-B-Q cookout!

Other activities will include:
Solar Observing
A Celestial Scavenger Hunt
Guest lecture by Dr. Jeff Robertson, an astrophysicist at Arkansas Tech University

RSVP for the event if you plan to eat with us or just attend the activities portion of the program at www.caasastro.org, this way we will know how many folks we can expect.

Directions to the observatory will be provided via email upon completion of your registration.

Star-B-Q cost:
$7.50/adult;   $6.00/child

All other activities are free but donations of $2.00 or more to help offset facility costs are always greatly appreciated. Donation box will be available at the River Ridge Observatory Grounds throughout the evening. CAAS is a non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.

Pass it on to anyone else you know who might want to join us!
