Public Star Party – Ranch North Woods Preserve
The Nature Conservancy has asked CAAS to host a special Star Party open to the general public at its Ranch North Woods Preserve located at the end of Ranch Blvd. off highway 10 in west Little Rock. Weather permitting, the event will be held Mar
ch 4th starting at 6:45 P.M. and the main program featuring a constellation tour and telescopic views of the winter Milky Way’s best objects will begin at 7:00 P.M. Once the program begins we will ask that people not use white flashlights until the program is over. For this reason, and so as not to interrupt the constellation tour, we ask that guest arrive by 6:45 P.M. at which time a presentation will be made about the preserve and its ecological and recreational assets.
Guests are strongly encouraged (not required) to register for the event so as to receive information concerning any necessary changes in the timing of the event due to weather, as well as directions and advise for enhancing your comfort and enjoyment during the event (such as what to bring). 30 Years at the River Ridge Observatory
Long time member Carl Freyaldenhoven recently shared this newsletter cover that he found back in the vault of oldies. The RRO property was purchased in 1986 and took a couple years to haul off debris, put up buildings, and otherwise get it ready for use. Notice we were still the Midsouth Astronomical Research Society then.
