National Astronomy Day, April 21, 2018

 
April 21st is National Astronomy Day and the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society invites you to come out to Pinnacle Mountain State Park at the Visitor’s Center for an afternoon and evening of celebration! Starting at 2PM we will have activities for everyone to enjoy. If the weather is cloudy we will use a shorter schedule, 2PM – 8PM. It’s all free and all family fun. Come out and explore your cosmos!

2:00 – 6:00 (solar observing, making giant bubbles, Water Rockets)
3:00 – Reliving the Space Race.
4:00 – Introduction to Observing for Sky Watchers and Amateur Astronomers
5:00 – Light Pollution
6:00 – Brown Bag dinner, chat with CAAS members about astronomy and CAAS
7:00 – Observing the Moon
7:30 – Star Party Intro
8:00 – 10:00 Star Party and Sky Tours

 

Buffalo River Star Party – Tyler Bend – April 13 or 14

7:00 PM – Amphitheater, observing/sky watching basics program followed by a primer on light pollution.
8:00 PM – South end of group camping site demonstrating the types and use of scopes and binoculars.
8:30 PM – Tour of the Spring Sky.
9:00 – 11:00 PM – telescopic views of the Spring sky.  The hardly may wish to lay about afterwards and spot a few Lyrid meteors.14th is a rain date for the 13th.
