I am building an equatorial tracking table for my 18" dob. This album shows the construction.

Mars-12-17-05. First light with the platform. This is from 2 min. of avi taken at 5 frames per second. 100 frames were used out of a total of 1000 to make this stacked image. Shot at 5000mm focal length and at f/11. Processed using Registax. Mars was 14 arcsec in diameter.

The 18" is mounted on the platform. I mounted the teflon pads directly to the platform so that the added height of the ground board was eliminated. View of the North end.

View of the South side. The scope moves pretty much as it did before. The tilt of the table dosen't seem that noticeable.

The old Commidor monitor is connected to an electronic eyepiece, making a very accurate electronic finder. This allows me to keep the planet on the chip of the webcam. The acetate overlay marks the center of the chip.

The webcam that caused all this. The platform will allow me to keep the planet on the tiny chip longer. The more images I get the better the end result.

The Meade electronic eyepiece mounted in my 80mm finder. This has turned out to be very handy and saves my back as I don't have to bend over constantly to check where I am.

This is a limit switch that will keep the Delrin drive coupling from reaching the end of the all-thread. If it wern't there the drive train could strip out, the motor has quite a bit of torque!

A view of the south end of the platform. The polar axis angles down from above the platform and then continues below the camera. Polar alignment can be done only by the drift method, there is nothing physical to sight along.
